Democratic policing: a conceptual framework

ABSTRACT Democratic policing, as opposed to regime must meet at least three requirements: there is democratic accountability of and for the police; police adhere rule law; behave in a manner that procedurally fair service public. The article presents conceptual framework nine dimensions applicable different contexts with view facilitate policies practices towards policing. It argued ultimate result being sought legitimate service. If legitimacy result, then trust outcome preceding it. Legitimacy dependent on public's State power will be used public interest. Public therefore fulfils an important legitimising function.
